Armin Van Buuren X Ocean Drive: 16 Years Alongside an Electronic Music Legend

At Ocean Drive Ibiza, we’re celebrating. This year, 2023, marks our 25th anniversary—25 years as a hotel, but also as an icon and a home away from home for countless internationally renowned electronic music artists who, summer after summer, arrive on our island to light up the nights at some of the most emblematic and famous clubs in the world.

We’ve been preparing for this moment for a while, one where we can honor and thank all those who have trusted us over the years, while also inviting new faces to connect with our essence and philosophy. For this, we’ve poured our hearts into a commemorative campaign with three main pillars: a complete interior redesign, a renewed commitment to music, and a tribute to three legendary DJs with a special bond to Ocean Drive Ibiza.

Our façade is well-known to island regulars, but now our interiors have been completely transformed. The new Ocean Drive immerses you in Art Deco elegance, with geometric lines and colors that transport you to the golden 1920s: redesigned common areas, a new lobby, an elegant restaurant, a terrace, a hall, and a sky bar with the best views of the city.

Among our refreshed spaces is the cozy “Listening Corner,” home to our monthly Analog Explorer events—a celebration of warm, organic sound that takes guests on an authentic auditory journey. Beyond the events, this corner is always open for music lovers to enjoy vinyl classics on high-fidelity players and an extensive record collection.

Over the years, many of our guests have been top-tier DJs, both national and international, seeking the comfort and peace of feeling at home after their sets. They’ve each left their mark on the personality and DNA of Ocean Drive, inspiring “made of music, made of moments,” our heartfelt homage to them. As part of this tribute, we’ve named three of our suites after these artists, each decorated with signed photos and personal mementos they’ve gifted us. Yes, you can actually sleep in the Armin Van Buuren suite.

Armin Van Buuren, born in Leiden, Netherlands, on December 25, 1976, discovered his love for music thanks to his father and his fascination with technology, leading him to his first mixer and inherited synthesizer. Today, he’s one of the most celebrated figures in electronic music, holding the DJ Magazine World’s #1 DJ title five times (and uniquely, four years in a row), hosting the globally beloved A State of Trance radio show since 2001, and earning accolades like a Grammy nomination in 2014.

In the US, he holds an impressive record with 21 albums on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and his live performances are pure energy—flawless mixing, an endless repertoire, and a unique ability to connect with the crowd.

For our 25th anniversary, we visited Armada Music’s Amsterdam offices to interview Armin, talking about his early days, his bond with Ibiza, and, of course, with Ocean Drive. For 16 years, he’s chosen to stay with us every summer, calling Ocean Drive “like coming home.” We couldn’t imagine a better compliment.
